The Literary Creation Under Globalization Background
Adisorn Paiwattananupan (Thailand)
Ladies and gentlemen, our fellow writers, it's a good opportunity that we, the writers from Maritime Silk Road countries, gather today to exchange opinions and share update on the literary situation in your respective country and to strengthen relationship among us.
In this globalization era where everything can be seamlessly connected and borderless world seems more down-to-earth than before, so is the literature.Foreign literature translation for publishing becomes an ordinary thing in this era.
Each author doesn't only compete within their own country anymore, even with the language barrier in place and that translation has never been easy, but if the work itself is outstanding or unique enough in its own way or touching to the heart of readers, there will be someone out there who is willing to take that master work beyond those languages obstacle to make sure this quality piece will never be kept hidden in the corner of the secret chest at the basement and to ensure that it will be in the hands of fellows who value it, our readers. At that point of time, it will not be limited to just one language anymore. It will then become global, meaning more opportunities will come your way. In the contrary, if that work doesn't shine enough domestically. It will then face the difficulty and pressure from the intense competition whereby the budget from the publishers for selected works are limited so as the readers's budget to buy, let alone many great domestic, international, classic or modern works queuing for the publishers to choose and those that already lied at the book store awaiting for the readers. Other distractions in daily life such as Social Media, games, TV, movies, etc. come at play as time-stealer. This is not just writings against writings or paperback against e-book anymore. The literature market is not growing and being an author is not a bed of roses like before, though under that circumstance we bear in mind, we still insist to pursue our dream as a writer.
Deep down inside I believe that the literature reflects the voice within its creator. The initial inspiration may just be as simple as a need to tell the story or to deliver some meaningful messages to the people out there, not primarily for money. That initial 'spark' still remains within us and has strongly driven us to keep continuing our path as long as we, as a writer, know there are readers waiting. But in order to attract more readers or to retain them, the work has to be able to sell itself and stand out enough to draw readers' attention and steal their time and money from other distractions. Therefore, the authors shouldn't limit themselves to cultivate from domestic or international literature work only but to open up and let yourself explore and gain experience broadly or deeply enough to finally let it becomes the 'fuel' or material for your next masterpiece. All of them is about story-telling. The more the authors expand their interest on other areas such as TV, movies or even games, the more level up on the author self and their work. Undeniably that crafting the work in each own author's style is, indeed, literature work but by combining other interests will make it even more powerful and relevant to the readers one way or another as we found new different or interesting ways to communicate to them, interact with them and create emotional involvement through the story and way. This will become our asset to apply to our own work to make even broader, thorough and well-rounded synthesized story based on a better understanding in ourselves, our need while still be able to convey the key message or the value you believe in.
The world has changed, inevitably, and it won't stop changing. Technology is evolving where the future of Artificial Intelligence world is close to within our reach. The experiment of using AI to write literature or analyse the work for the best-selling trend is not just an imagination in the sci-fi world but it is now exist in the real world. As a creator, author, writer, we need to embrace the change, learn from it and challenge yourself to be out of comfort zone. Don't live forever in your successful past or hold yourself to it. Dare to try writing in the way you never think you would to pave your new path to another step to succeed and create your uniqueness or so-called 'signature' along the way. Importantly, your story or book has to be able to strongly convince the readers on 'Why this book and not others'. Remember to write with faith, belief and value that you hold on to and it will eventually make you work shine through any sea of story-telling to the eyes and heart of the readers. Telling a story in the traditional literary way is still magical and fascinating to the readers and there will always be the place for any great literatures. Through literature, we tell a story and expand readers' endless imagination by letters instead of motion or photos. We draw their interest, time and money by the story's distinct concept, its concise and in-depth detail to bring picture in readers’ mind which, in return, make them delight. These are the strengths or the charm of literature that will not be found in any other type of works and should be maintained to sustain the literature in this globalization era. Lastly, don't let your passion dies.
May the force, the creativity, new ideas, the fuel, the inspiration, the bravery be with you and lead you to success in this literature world.
